The first standard of breed the Staffordshire bull terrier has been confirmed by English Club of Dog breeding in 1935, and modern standard FCI - in 1987. We also bring this standard to your attention
- GENERAL VIEW
Smooth-coated, well balanced, of great strength for his size. Muscular, active and agile.
- BEHAVIOR AND TEMPERAMENT
Traditionally of indomitable courage and tenacity. Highly intelligent and affectionate especially with children. Bold, fearless and totally reliable.
- CHARACTER
Courageous, fearless and absolutely reliable.
- HEAD
Short, with a wide skull. Strongly pronounced muscles of cheekbones, distinct transition from a forehead to a muzzle, a muzzle short, a lobe of a nose the black.
- EYES
As a rule, dark, but color can depend a little from coat color. Round, small, are put directly. Edges of eyelids the dark.
- EARS
In the form of a rose-petal or semi standing, not big and not the heavy. Completely trailing or standing ears are extremely undesirable.
- MOUTH
Lips skintight and pure. Jaws strong, a teeth large, with an ideal, correct and full bite, that is closely block an upper teeth bottom, densely adjoin to gums.
- NECK
Brawny, short enough, with the distinct silhouette, gradually extending to shoulders.
- FORWARD FINITENESS
Direct and harmonious, widely placed, wrists strong, paws are a little turned out outside. Shoulders are taken away back. Elbows strong.
- TRUNK
Strong, with an equal back, a broad chest and a deep breast, with flexible edges, brawny and well outlined.
- BACK FINITENESS
With well developed muscles; joints are located low, shins with a good inclination. If to look behind, finiteness are parallel.
- PAWS
Small pillows are developed well. Paws strong, the average size. At dogs dark color claws black.
- TAIL
Moderate length, it is low planted, narrowed to a tip. The dog holds it low enough. It should not be bent very much, can remind the old-fashioned handle of the pump.
- MOVEMENTS
Free, assured, fast and economic. Feet move in parallel. The movement impulse is created appreciably at the expense of back finiteness.
- COAT HAIR
Smooth, short, dense.
- COAT COLOR
Red, fawn, white, black or blue, or any one of these colors with white. Any shade of brindle or any shade of brindle with white. Black and tan or liver color highly undesirable.
- SIZE AND WEIGHT
Desirable height at withers: 14-16 ins. (35,5 to 40,5 cm), these heights being related to the weights.Weight: Dogs: 28-38 lbs (12,7-17 kg).
Bitches: 24-34 lbs (11-15,4 kg)
- FAULTS
Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree and its effect upon the health and welfare of the dog.Any dog clearly showing physical or behavioral abnormalities shall be disqualified.
N.B. : Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum.
